Mountain & Mind

Raising kids, running businesses, chasing freedom

I’m a homeschooling mom, entrepreneur, horse lover, and nature chaser—equally at home in the mountains or with my toes in the sand. My days are a mix of schooling my kids, training horses, managing our family business, and sneaking in a little yoga when I can.

I believe in raising kids with freedom and intention, building a business that supports our values, and staying grounded—whether it’s on a yoga mat, a horse, or a mountain trail. Life’s busy, beautiful, and a little unconventional… just the way we like it.

As a homeschool mom of two, a solid morning routine is key to helping me integrate learning into our everyday life and set a positive, grounded tone for the rest of the day. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how I structure my mornings so we can balance school, work, and family time with ease.

I usually wake up between 5:00 and 5:30 AM. The first thing I do is get the coffee going and drink a glass of hot water. While the coffee brews, I check emails and take a few minutes to review our plan for the day — noting any lessons, appointments, sports practices, horse work, and dinner prep. It’s a quick check-in that only takes about 10 minutes but keeps me feeling organized and in control.

Once my coffee’s ready, I sip a cup while fitting in a short yoga session or quick workout. That little bit of movement really sets a positive tone for the day. My husband and I then sit together, enjoy our coffee, and send out invoices from the day before. By 7:00 AM, I head outside to feed the horses.

About 10 minutes into my chores, my youngest usually joins me outside — her bright smile and cheerful “Hi, Mama!” is one of my favorite parts of the morning. Once the horses are cared for and pens cleaned, we go inside to have breakfast together.

My husband is our resident breakfast chef — a role I’m incredibly grateful for. His business is both lucrative and flexible, allowing us to spend some quiet, unrushed time together before he’s off for the day. After breakfast, we transition into our homeschool lessons and whatever else the day holds — knowing that our mornings set us up for success.

A consistent and thoughtful morning routine doesn’t just make our days run smoother — it also creates a peaceful rhythm that integrates learning into our real life in a natural, enjoyable way.

If you’re looking to establish a more seamless morning flow for your family, I’ve included a simple routine template below. Finding the right balance takes time, so embrace the process as you build new habits. Don’t hesitate to adjust as needed — every small shift brings you closer to a homeschool life that truly fits your family. You’ve got this! ✨
