Mountain & Mind

Raising kids, running businesses, chasing freedom

I’m a homeschooling mom, entrepreneur, horse lover, and nature chaser—equally at home in the mountains or with my toes in the sand. My days are a mix of schooling my kids, training horses, managing our family business, and sneaking in a little yoga when I can.

I believe in raising kids with freedom and intention, building a business that supports our values, and staying grounded—whether it’s on a yoga mat, a horse, or a mountain trail. Life’s busy, beautiful, and a little unconventional… just the way we like it.

You don’t need a five-star resort or a four-figure flight to make memories that matter.
Some of our favorite family adventures have happened on the road, in a tent, or with PB&Js packed in a cooler.
This isn’t about luxury—it’s about being together.
Here’s how we make travel part of our family rhythm—without wrecking our budget.

1. Prioritize Travel in the Budget

We treat travel like a non-negotiable.
It gets a line item in the budget, just like groceries or gas.
That means fewer impulse buys and more intentional spending year-round.

💡 Tip: Open a dedicated savings account for travel and automate transfers—even if it’s $10/week.

2. Drive Instead of Fly

Road trips save us thousands—and they turn the journey into part of the adventure.
We bring our own food, stop at weird roadside attractions, and get more flexibility.

3. Sleep Simple

We prefer to stay in hotels on our way to our destination. The promise of a pool and hot tub at the end of a long driving day is something nice for us all to look forward to.

4. Pack Light and Smart

Overpacking means chaos—and more laundry! We go carry-on (when flying) or backpack only.

5. Go Off-Peak and Off-Path

We avoid peak season prices by traveling during shoulder seasons.
We pick places that aren’t on everyone else’s radar.

You don’t need Disneyland for magic. A quiet lake and good snacks go a long way.

6. Be There While You’re There

The biggest budget hack? Presence.
When you’re focused on each other, not entertainment spending, the trip becomes rich—even if the itinerary is simple.

Closing:

You won’t look back and wish you’d stayed home.
Save the money. Go on the trip. The memories are worth every penny—and you don’t need to be rich to make them.
